Cisco Enterprise Controller Going Through Paces

Cisco is expanding its APIC Enterprise Module, an Enterprise Controller for its programmable application Centric Infrastructure (ACI) to its software development community to get it ready for general release.APIC EM should enable IT policy-based automation to expand and configure the WAN and access networks. It is in beta and early field trials now and general availability will be based on the progress of these studies. Initially it was to be available in the second quarter of this year.

In addition to the betas and field trials, APIC EM is hammered on by software developers in Cisco DevNet Community, a network of software programmers, applications for Cisco hardware. DevNet programmers develop the assessment APIC EM APIs and applications to share and expand its capabilities. If APIC EM is available, customers and developers can download it from Cisco DevNet free, according to a blog post by Susie Wee, Cisco vice president and CTO of Networked experiences.DevNet is also a delivery vehicle for ACI, Cisco-on-again, off-again SDN can be used. ACI wider APIC controller for cloud providers and enterprises is its APIs and documentation are going so well by DevNet, says Wee.

DevNet, now is the key to Cisco R & D and innovation activities. It was for the first time publicly at Cisco Live conference last May, where a DevNet occupied zone introduced a large footprint of the exhibition space.DevNet is a necessity in the networking, the largest industry is long established in the computing, storage and application industries.Networking in Silicon Valley without developer community to meet, said Dave Ward, Cisco senior vice president and CTO life of engineering at Cisco.

DevNet website contains more than 100 types of APIs for developers writing applications for Cisco routers, switches and servers or clients, to expand existing Cisco networks. In addition to the API website contains DevNet a community of interactive developers, discussion forums and sandboxes laboratory services 24x7 cloud on Cisco Unified Computing Systems, the pre-configured for shared planning or environment-specific tests on the latest products of the company and development platforms.

DevNet currently has 80,000 developers, says Wee.The goal is one million, he says, adding that the developer community is important, strategy, Cisco network from end to end and IT architectures for ambitious initiatives such as the Internet of Things / All.It is super important, she says. There is an awareness that we have a platform. The measure of success is the number of developers. And always these applications on the market, Cisco incubating an app store for enterprise-class applications DevNet and will be opened later this year, says Wee.

Currently DevNet Developer, specifically for commercial applications of Cisco products. Three of these developers are Citrix, Davra Glue Networks and Networks. But there are plans to open code development and belonging, including OpenStack and OpenDaylight DevNet community that are added during the year, says Wee.Cisco is not careful as an alternative to open source communities to position DevNet says.We do not want to remove communities, says Wee. Developers will go where developers. Provide additional tools and adapters in Cisco Connect (open source) devices. Not want to create their own community; we want them to have access to the assets of Cisco.
